Noveon^® CA-2 Calcium Polycarbophil, USP

Noveon^® CA-2 Calcium Polycarbophil, USP is the calcium salt of polyacrylic acid crosslinked with divinyl glycol. This finely-milled grade of calcium polycarbophil is ideally suited for formulating chewable bulk laxative tablets or lozenges. Noveon^® CA-2 Calcium Polycarbophil swells in the intestinal tract, taking advantage of the natural water absorbency of polycarbophil. The swollen polycarbophil gel then acts as a bulk laxative as it moves through the gastrointestinal tract.

Calcium polycarbophil is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an over-the counter treatment for constipation associated with conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome.

Complications of cramping and bloating are less common with calcium polycarbophil than with other bulking agents due to its inert chemical qualities.
